The latest update by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has elevated the strength of Tropical Storm Neoguri to category 2, with sustained winds of 120 kph (75 mph). The JMA says the cyclone will continue moving north-northeastward at 13 kph (8 mph) on Monday, and will likely strike eastern Japan on Tuesday with maximum winds of 140 kph (87 mph). The agency says Neoguri could become a severe tropical storm on Tuesday. The storm is expected to make a U-turn, and become a subtropical storm before its center moves off of the country's main island of Honshu. Tropical Storm Chenoa The depression of Tropical Storm Chenoa, which formed on March 24 off of the northeastern coast of Australia, is expected to bring significant impacts to Japan. On March 30, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center in Honolulu, Hawaii issued its final advisory on Tropical Storm Chenoa, which lost its status as a tropical storm. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center noted that Chenoa was located between 13.5N to 13.8N latitude by 162.6E to 162.8E longitude, and was moving westward at around 14 kph (8 mph). The Joint Typhoon Warning Center forecast that Chenoa would start to approach the northern coast of Japan on Sunday, and that it would become a Tropical Storm on Monday.
